http://www.TransformingStigma.com/college Mike Veny is a well sought after professional speaker and motivator.
Already speaking on various college campuses in the U.S.
He has spoken for and with such groups as Active Minds, NAMI on Campus, and To Write Love on Her Arms.
It could be the student body as a whole, a psychology department or even counseling services.
Despite what people may tell you or think, there is no shame in admitting you have a mental illness. The shame comes from perceptions and cultural stigma, both of which can easily be dismissed with understanding and education.
“This is where I come in” says Veny.
“I help guide college students in the right direction for help.
It may be that this has been a problem all your life; it may have only recently surfaced or it could be you just have more than your fair share of issues and problems.
What you have to do first is always the hardest. This is why I am invited to speak.
I want you to recognize what is and what is not a mental illness.
There IS a difference between stress and mental illness.
There is NOT a difference in asking for HELP.
What follows are not strict guides or absolutes. These are generalized recommendations that are sound, safe and designed to help you get the help you need. Each person is different in their own way, and it is the same with mental illnesses.
It is the cusp of what will become the most exciting time in your life. It is a chance to grow, to learn and most importantly, shape the person you will eventually become – a fully productive member of society.
Follow along as we both take this journey. I am not a tour guide, lecturer or leader. I am a passenger, just like you, on the same ride to the same destination.”
