http://www.TransformingStigma.Com Mental health speaker, Mike Veny presenting at the 2014 NERSC (New England Resident Service Coordinators) Conference at the Omni Mount Washington in Vermont. Resident Service Coordinators work hard to provide support and also manage residences for people in need of housing services to maintain their independence. Lead by Executive Director, Andrea Dobras, NERSC works hard to provide professional development and networking opportunities to resident service coordinators in New England.
Mike Veny delivered this inspirational and motivational mental health speech, knowing that dealing with a resident who struggles with mental illness or a mental disability can be difficult. As a person who could easily be one of their residents, he was able to effectively make his case for transforming stigma surrounding mental illness and also keep the audience entertained. Burnout is a real challenge for resident service coordinators. In addition to reminding the audience about the clients they serve, he encourage them to take care of themselves.
Mike was invited to be the keynote speaker for this event after successfully opening up and setting the tone for the 2013 Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) Conference in State College, Pennsylvania. He believes in the working resident service coordinators do and is committed to helping them succeed. The stigma surrounding mental health exists everywhere and Mike hopes to transform this stigma into strength through connecting with housing managers and professionals.
If you are a housing manager or professional and a resident with mental illness is acting out inappropriately, what do you do? The answer is unique to every situation. However, the most important tool that will empower you to be successful with any resident who is acting out inappropriately, is to be in the habit of regularly taking care of yourself.

United Way of York County’s mission is to build a stronger, caring community by cultivating financial generosity, volunteerism and advocacy. They are connecting people in need with programs that help, focusing on education, health and financial stability.
United Way is kicked off York county’s largest annual fundraising campaign on August 30. They welcomed, leading mental health speaker, Mike Veny to share his experiences in addressing and erasing the stigma around mental illness. Guests also heard from a panel of local mental health experts at this free event.
“You look at people all the time and think they have their stuff together, but so many people are struggling. We had, I think, over 70 suicides here in York County in 2017,” Veny said.
That’s why United Way officials felt like it was time to turn the focus on getting York County residents the help they need by raising money for partner agencies that deal with mental health.
“It shouldn’t be a special subject that we talk about. We should talk about it in a normal voice, the same way we do allergies. If you think about it, people talk about mental health in a very low voice. They want to keep it private. We’re the problem at that point,” Veny said.
Why Is It So Hard To Let Yourself Grieve?
http://www.mikeveny.com
Why is it so hard to let yourself grieve? In this video, Mike Veny explains why it’s so hard to let yourself grieve or even give yourself permission to grieve.
Mike Veny is a Certified Corporate Wellness Specialist®, author, mental health speaker, course instructor and the CEO of Mike Veny, Inc.
WARNING: He’s not a mental health professional. If you are thinking of harming yourself, someone else or are in need of medical help, please consult a doctor. If you are in an emergency, please call 911.
In this video, he discusses the following:
1 – Control and grief. If you’ve ever thought, “Why is it difficult for me to cry?”, you need to understand this.
2 – Not being ready to grieve.
Mike has been mentored, by Jon Terrell, a therapist who specializes in dealing with difficult emotions. Mike began a relationship with him after attending one of his emotional healing retreats. Through this life-changing experience with grief work, he learned that it was less about dealing with difficult emotions and more about working with difficult emotions. Also, he no longer believes that men can’t cry.
The grieving process is extremely difficult. It’s important to learn how to grieve a loss, how to grieve a relationship or how to grieve death. Letting yourself cry is important, but you first must give yourself permission to grieve.
