Today we delve into the sometimes controversial topic of gender roles and discuss how men can be healthier in their masculinity.
In fact, in this video, we talk about some of the reasons men are struggling to know their role these days and what can be done about it.
Here’s a quick overview of what’s in the video:
A lot of attention gets focused on the topic of gender equality, and rightly so. Women deserve equal pay for equal work and to know they can go to work in a safe environment. However, as the feminist movement has risen to fight for what they deserve, a shift has happened that makes it difficult for men to understand what our role is.
What does healthy masculinity look like in a society that tends to paint it in a bad light? Vikie Shanks and I dive head first into this topic. We discuss things like:
The natural roles of men and women from centuries ago
The need for women to embrace their femininity and men their masculinity
How the feminist movement has left men unsure how to treat women (e.g., do we hold the door open for women or give up our seat on the subway? Or does that make it look like we think they are the “weaker sex”?)
The importance of men stepping up to talk about issues like mental health
How to take out anger and aggression in appropriate ways
In short, if you are a man, this video will show you actionable ways to embrace your masculinity in 2019. If you are a woman, this video might help you see through the eyes of the men in your life.

http://www.TransformingStigma.Com Mental health speaker, Mike Veny presenting at the 2014 NERSC (New England Resident Service Coordinators) Conference at the Omni Mount Washington in Vermont. Resident Service Coordinators work hard to provide support and also manage residences for people in need of housing services to maintain their independence. Lead by Executive Director, Andrea Dobras, NERSC works hard to provide professional development and networking opportunities to resident service coordinators in New England.
Mike Veny delivered this inspirational and motivational mental health speech, knowing that dealing with a resident who struggles with mental illness or a mental disability can be difficult. As a person who could easily be one of their residents, he was able to effectively make his case for transforming stigma surrounding mental illness and also keep the audience entertained. Burnout is a real challenge for resident service coordinators. In addition to reminding the audience about the clients they serve, he encourage them to take care of themselves.
Mike was invited to be the keynote speaker for this event after successfully opening up and setting the tone for the 2013 Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) Conference in State College, Pennsylvania. He believes in the working resident service coordinators do and is committed to helping them succeed. The stigma surrounding mental health exists everywhere and Mike hopes to transform this stigma into strength through connecting with housing managers and professionals.
If you are a housing manager or professional and a resident with mental illness is acting out inappropriately, what do you do? The answer is unique to every situation. However, the most important tool that will empower you to be successful with any resident who is acting out inappropriately, is to be in the habit of regularly taking care of yourself.

Today you’re going to learn EXACTLY what I think is contributing to the mental health challenges facing teenagers (and adults) that many people are overlooking.
In fact, in this video, I’m going to show you a practical step you can take to improve your mental health that is so easy ANYONE can do it.
Here’s a quick overview of what’s in the video:
The statistics are being discussed all over the place. The number of teens dealing with mental health challenges is continuing to rise. There is talk about bullying and suicide and people are searching for an answer. There are plenty of theories out there in the world including too much time on the phone and social media. But I have my own theory—it all started with air conditioning.
We live comfortable lives with many conveniences, like air conditioning that made it possible for us to not need to go outside of our homes even during hot summer months. Before that happened it was hot inside, which pushed people outside where they came face-to-face with neighbors and friends. Now cell phone use allows us to go about our lives without really connecting with other people face-to-face. We have our friendships over social media and the number of people working from home is increasing.
And it’s not just in our homes. Even when we are with people we aren’t looking at them and conversing with them. Cell phone use at school and cell phone use at work is stealing away the time when we should be having these face-to-face connections. How many times have you been at a restaurant and noticed groups sitting at the table together but everyone was looking down at a phone? It’s an epidemic that we need to change so we can improve our mental health awareness.
In short, this video will show you an actionable way to control cell phone use and connect with others to improve mental health in 2019.
